This Drew Simmons may not be the Drew Simmons you’re looking for
This Drew Simmons. Not that Drew Simmons.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — Drew Simmons, a strategic communications and public relations consultant specializing in the outdoor world, this week announced that he may not be the Drew Simmons you’re looking for.
Yes, this Drew Simmons does live in Vermont. Yes, this Drew Simmons does enjoy the occasional Noah Kahan singalong about drinking till his friends come home for Christmas. And yes, this Drew Simmons is considered one of the four most famous Drew Simmons by Google AI because of a career spent working in media and public relations in the outdoor industry.
But he is not that Drew Simmons.
“I get it,” said the Drew Simmons that you’re probably not looking for. “Drew Simmons just isn’t that common of a name. Or at least it didn’t used to be.”
According to Drew Simmons, when he ego-surfs his name on Google, there is an abundance of Drew Simmons namesakes out there. There’s a movie art director, a notable track runner, a quite competent looking Idaho nurse, a Florida high school football player (who looks damn good), a Michigan high school baseball player (who also looks damn good), a North Dakota grappling instructor (whatever that means), a VP at a bespoke craftsman shop in South Carolina, a very serious looking special assistant in the Department of Homeland Security. and lest we forget a London-based senior correspondent for Al Jazeera who covered the murder of Jamal Khashoggi. And that’s just the short list.
But none of these Drew Simmons are the Drew Simmons that is creating confusion among those hoping to connect with this Drew Simmons. Instead, the Drew Simmons that prompted the creation of this Drew Simmons-focused press release is the Drew Simmons of Foundations Artist Management, a Nashville-based music agent who manages Noah Kahan, the legendary brain and hair behind “Stick Season” and other Vermonty tunes written in New Hampshire.
The Vermont Drew Simmons explained that occasions of identity confusion with the Nashville Drew Simmons began about 18 months ago, when an occasional DM started sliding into his inbox. And then came a few emails. And a handful of voice messages, too.
And in recent days, since Nashville Drew Simmons signed a deal with Chappell Roan, the Grammy winning artist of Pink Pony Club fame, occasional emails have started to arrive from aspiring musical artists (or rather, the PR people that love them).
Drew Simmons thinks he may be on a list somewhere.
One of the first Drew Simmons-based email mistakes came from an elementary school teacher in southern Vermont who wanted to score some tickets to an upcoming Noah show as a surprise Secret Santa gift for a female co-worker (awkward).
But the Drew Simmons mixups have also included messages from people with mental health concerns or situations, as they’ve been touched in some way by Noah’s open comments about the need for more mental health awareness.
Drew Simmons wants people do know that if you are looking for mental health assistance or advice, Noah Kahan does indeed have a mental health initiative (the Busyhead Project). It’s rooted in his own life experiences and provides a wide variety of resources and information. It even has a “do you need help” button for those looking for direct support which takes you here.
Drew Simmons also wants people to know that he does respond to any and all messages for anyone named Drew Simmons. Drew Simmons lets them know he’s not the Drew Simmons they’re looking for, and Drew Simmons forwards those messages to the agency email he found online for Drew Simmons. But Drew Simmons hasn’t heard back from Drew Simmons yet, which is understandable as Drew Simmons is clearly a very busy guy.
“It’s all good. The pitches from aspiring bands are a fun break from my usual work day. But I do take the mental health requests seriously,” said Drew Simmons. “It’s actually not that much of disraction, and kind of a fun story to tell. Besides, I figure the karma will work in my favor some day as I’ll be able to score some backstage passes at will call for a Noah show somewhere. Unless one of the other Drew Simmons’ gets there first.”
